What this bin holds

We provide 11/16" drill bits with a reduced shank, designed for precision drilling in various metals. These bits help you achieve clean holes in demanding applications.

Each drill bit has an 11/16" cutting diameter, a 1/2" shank diameter, and a 3" flute length, with an overall length of 6". Made from M2 high-speed steel, these bits offer high hardness, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance. The 135° split point helps prevent walking, improving drilling accuracy in medium to high-hard metals.

Who takes it home

This 11/16" drill bit is a good choice for drilling low/medium carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum alloys. When working with harder materials, we recommend using cutting fluid or an intermittent drilling method to reduce wear and extend the bit's life.

What makers wrote about this bin

  • The 1/2" reduced shank with three flats is the main reason to consider this bit. It fits any standard drill chuck without slipping, and the flats give the jaws something to grip so the bit won't spin under load. I tightened it into a corded 1/2" drill and there was zero play. The 135-degree split point starts cutting immediately without walking, even on mild steel plate. I drilled a pilot hole first out of habit, but the tip grabbed the surface on its own with no wandering. The gold oxide finish feels smooth to the touch and seems to reduce friction during the cut. Chips came off in clean,…

  • Sometimes you need to poke big holes in metal things. Typically I would just use step bits for holes larger than 1/2" but I figured I'd give this set a shot. These are huge bits and appear to be very well made. The full set is quite heavy. They come in a sturdy little box with a foam lining, and the individual bits were in little plastic bags. So far I've only had the need to use the 5/8" bit, and it worked as expected. I used my drill press, secured the workpiece with clamps, started with a dimple punched in the metal to keep the bit centered, and used cutting fluid. I was cutting through…

  • This 5/8" bit is a good choice if you need a standard drill bit in a larger size, instead of, for example a butterfly or Forstner bit. This item comes packed in a square plastic sleeve that is wrapped in a plastic bag. The edges are quite sharp so be careful handling. The shorter bit size and flats on the shank are perfect for use in a drill press as the wobble is significantly reduced compared to jobber length bits. I included the bit measurements, below. Overall this is a good bit at a decent price point and it cuts through wood like butter. I have yet to try it out on metal but I suspect…

  • This drill isn't going to win any awards from machinists. It's not precise. But for many home DIYers, when you want a 1" hole what you care more about is that it fits your 1/2" chuck. And this drill does that. It cuts fine, and for the price it's a pretty good value. The bit comes in a plastic case to keep it protected when not in use, and it came reasonably sharp. The size of the bit was quite a bit larger in diameter than 1"... from a machinist's point of view. But from a homeowner point of view... as in you want a 1" hole for a pipe, it's close enough.
